    • Gas Turbine Combined Cycle Power Plants
      GTCCPP Though first gas turbine was used to generate electricity, was 4 MW BBC gas turbine installed in 1939 for emergency power in Switzerland (Wikipedia), while the first gas turbine combined cycle power plant was installed in 1968, about fifty years before. It is because the initial gas turbine's exhaust gases temperature was low from which it was not feasible to generate steam to run an efficient steam turbine. As the material technology improved and special metals were developed to withstand the higher flame temperature, it become possible to produce high exhaust gas temperatures. Initial efficiency of CCGT power plant was about 44% which is now increasing above 62%, and gas turbine combined cycle power plants are become most favourable in modern world because of; high efficiency, less turn over time, fuel flexible and reliability.

    • Combined Cycle Power Plants
      Engine CCPP This category is other than the GT combine cycle power plant, it primary cycle consists diesel engines etc. Diesel engines are very efficient because these converts more fuel energy into mechanical energy therefore diesel engine cycle efficiency ranges  between 38 to 50%. However, its exhaust gas temperature is lower as compared to a gas turbine, which is about 360 degree C., therefore single pressure level of about 15 bar is deployed in heat recovery boiler. Because of this the HRSG become simpler in design. Overall Diesel engine combine cycle power plant efficiency is between 53 to 60%.  The operating cost and maintenance cost is more than CCGT power plants.
